Orthodontic emergencies are rare, but we’re ready to react when they happen.
Have a loose bracket or band? The bracket will need to be re-fitted as soon as possible. Call our office to inform us and schedule an appointment for repair right away.
Is a wire irritating you? Sometimes discomfort caused by a wire on your braces can be resolved by moving the wire away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser. If the wire does not move, try covering the end of it with a small piece of cotton or a small amount of dental wax. If the wire is painful, you can cut it with nail clippers or scissors that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. Call our office if the irritation continues.
Lost a separator? Most patients lose a separator during their treatment. Don’t worry about losing a separator, but call our office to see if it needs to be replaced.
Are you experiencing discomfort? You may feel some pain or discomfort the first week after braces are applied, as well as a day or two after routine adjustments. Swishing warm salt water around your gums may help. If not, it’s okay to take an aspirin or a non-aspirin pain reliever. A warm washcloth or heating pad may also help. If the pain persists or gets worse after a few days, contact our office.
