Braces have been around for a very, very long time. In fact, the earliest known form of braces dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Fortunately, there have been many improvements in orthodontics since that time.

Metal braces help to guide teeth into the desired position by providing gentle, guiding pressure. Metal brackets are installed on each of your teeth, and an archwire connects them. The archwire provides the majority of the guiding pressure, while the brackets keep everything in place.

Regular checkups to monitor your progress will make adjustments that keep your treatment on track and heading toward your new smile!

It is hard to give an exact treatment time because every patient has a different orthodontic treatment plan. However, in general, the average time for a person to complete their treatment is 18-24 months.
Overall, you can enjoy most of the foods and beverages that you did before braces. However, we discourage a few foods due to the potential of chipping or breaking your brackets. These include sticky or hard foods like popcorn, nuts, sticky and hard candy, etc.
Braces themselves do not stain teeth. However, the buildup of leftover food and plaque can cause some tooth discoloration. Keeping up with your normal brushing and flossing routine is important during your treatment for this reason.
Alternatives to metal braces include clear braces, gold braces, or Invisalign clear aligners. We will help you determine which treatment options will yield the best results for your unique case and lifestyle.
